Last week a friend of mine mentioned her experience of a new spa treatment she had just enjoyed. She just wouldn't stop talking about it and so I decided to try it for myself. Making a booking with the Renaissance Spa Sandton over the phone was a simple process and I've been looking forward to the treatment ever since.

Turning up early for my appointment just so I could check out what else the spa has available, I made my way into the reception area where I was received by professional but friendly staff who welcomed me. After confirming my appointment I was led me to the waiting area were helpful staff were very happy to answer my questions regarding all the treatments available. With an exotic choice of drinks available to choose from, I chose a fruity cocktail as I settled in the plush poolside seating to chill before my treatment. My friend had decided not to tell me what exactly it involved and wanted it to be a surprise, all I knew at this point is the name “Luxury Candle Massage”.

When it was time for my treatment my massage therapist ushered me into a well-lit comfortable room with soothing background music. My therapist then started explain to me what the 60 minute treatment was going to involve. An innovative treatment which uses scented candles which when lit will melt into massage oil; the luxury candle treatment is becoming more popular. The benefits of massage have been proven hence it remains a popular spa treatment. The candle massage treatment introduces an additional element transforming it into a distinctive pampering experience. The candle massage wax main ingredients include the following:

  • Soy bean oil
  • Shea butter
  • Coconut oil
  • Palmarosa oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Aloe Vera
  • Vitamin E

These ingredients, together with the physical aspect of the massage experience on the muscles and deep tissue create a deep sense of relaxation and had a positive impact on my mood. Arriving for my treatment I was feeling stressed out with knots in my shoulder muscles, but the massage seemed to relax me, together with the aromatic scents and soothing music in the background. The warm oils contained in the melted wax felt silky on my skin as my therapist work her way expertly around my tense muscles, with the added benefit of softening and moisturising my skin.

I could hardly believe it when the hour was up; I was so relaxed and felt like an entirely different person leaving the spa. This has got to be one of the best spa experiences to date and I am so happy my friend shared this with me.
